Early this morning two fire engines from the Central Platte Fire Protection District crashed head-on in Platte County, Missouri in front of the residence they were responding to. One firefighter was flown out by helicopter and four other firefighters were also injured. Erik Holland with the sheriff's department reports the injuries are seroius but not life-threatening.

Here are some details from an article by Rober Cronkleton at kansascity.com:

The firefighters from the Central Platte Fire Protection District, which is staffed by volunteers, were responding to an electrical fire on a deck to a residence about 4:10 a.m. They collided in the 15000 block of Missouri HH, about two miles east of Platte City, Holland said.

The crash occurred as one of the fire trucks had missed the driveway to the house because of darkness. The fire truck turned around and was headed back toward the house when it crashed with the other truck, Holland said.
