Facing declining demand due to nationwide budget tightening, Pierce Manufacturing announced Friday its laying off 107 employees.

John Daggett is the spokesman for Pierce's parent company, Oshkosh Corp. He told PostCrescent.com:

"We believe the market will remain soft for the remainder of the year," he said. "A lot of communities are dealing with budget constraints, which is delaying the normal buying cycle."

Of those being cut, 56 are full-time employees and 51 are contracted in Appleton, Wisconsin.  Daggett said the workers would be asked back if business picks up.
