Retired Fresno, California Fire Truck Donated To Mexico

A Fresno, California doctor has been volunteering at a clinic in a small town outside Mexico City for 25 years and saw the town's need for fire equipment.  When he originally asked a friend at the Fresno Fire Department if there was a spare fire truck to donate, there wasn't.

But when the city retired six apparatus, the department sold a 1989 rig to Dr. Terry Hutchinson for $1 and now it's headed for Mexico.

From CBS47:

"If this vehicle saves lives, then it's doing what we want it to do," said Hutchison.

I'm sure with little effort a deserveing small town here in the U.S. could have bennifited from the purchase of a $1 pumper.

Indeed. My company runs 2 half open cabs 1986 ford young pumper that barely makes it up the hills here in upstate NY and a newly donated 1987 Simon Duplux that leaks water all over our firehouse .. So before we ship these off why can’t we help our own country with safer apparatus.. It’s very cold in NY in the winter riding in the back of a open cab after a fire LOL
