Worcester, Massachusetts Fire Truck Dedicated To 3 Brothers Killed In World War II, Korea

A Worcester, Massachusetts fire station is named after the road on which it sits. McKeon Road was named for three brothers. All of whom left for war. None of whom came home.  Now, McKeon Road Fire Station's new Ladder 5 bears their name as well: "The McKeon Road."

Joseph W., James B. McKeon were killed in action in World War II. They're younger brother, Robert E., was the city's first casualty in Korea.

From the Worcester Telegram:

Once the firefighters at the McKeon Road station learned of the history of the brothers, the more they wanted to honor them by dedicating the new Ladder 5 truck in their honor. They decided to have the McKeon Road street sign replicated on both sides of the Ladder 5 truck, with a black background, gold lettering and three gold stars.

“When the guys heard about these brothers, they couldn't believe it,” Lt. (Donald) Courtney said. “Everybody thought it was a great idea to name the truck after them because they were true heroes, having been killed in action while fighting for this country. We decided a fitting honor for them would be to christen our new ladder truck in their memory. We want to make new generations of people aware of who the McKeon boys were, what they did and what they meant to this city and our country.”

Excellent display of remembrance and patriotism for them to name that truck after the McKeon Brothers.  God bless them for their thoughtfulness.
