Residents of Salina, Colorado reopened their fire station and welcomed a new rig Saturday.
According to the DailyCamera.com, the fire station and a fire truck were destroyed during the Fourmile Fire last year.
Purchased using $325,000 in donations, the sophisticated engine is customized for the mountainous terrain with all-wheel drive and has full structure-fighting capability. It also has a 1,000-gallon water tank, a remote-control monitor that operates a compressed air-foam system, and air tanks built into the seats that will reduce firefighters' response time.
"It's a luxury for us," said volunteer firefighter Brian Schuller, a 10-year veteran of the Four Mile Fire Protection District. But "it starts with having a lot of loss in the community and then pulling together and bringing it back."
