An aerial from Girard Fire Department in Ohio is being replaced.  The FEMA Assistance to Firefighters Grant is making it possible.  Their truck was built in 1972 and has many problems.  See the full story here from foxyoungstown.com.

U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, announced on Wednesday that the Girard Fire Department was awarded the $853,100 Assistance to Firefighters Grant.

Fire officials said they'll use it to purchase a new 100-foot ladder truck to replace the department's current ladder truck, which was built in 1972.

"The cables sag, it leaks hydraulic fluid, it leaks air, there's a stabilizer that's actually in the bucket that's supposed to stabilize it, but it doesn't work, so you could actually flip out of it, that air system's terrible on it, for the breathing air systems," said Girard firefighter Luke Grunder, who wrote the successful grant application.
