Special equipment requested for fire in dust collector.

Liberty Fire Company in New Holland, PA needed assistance from West Chester.  They needed their piercing nozzle to assist with a dust collector bin that was on fire.  The concern of the crews was that there would be an explosion or collapse of the bin.  Neither of which occured.  For the full story from lancasteronline.com click here.

Martin said crews could not access the bin, which he estimated to be 50 to 55 feet tall, to quell the blaze but were able to open a hatch at the top of the bin to vent the flames.

"That left gases and flames escape. At that point, we were hoping to prevent an explosion," he said.

By the time a fire unit equipped with a piercing nozzle arrived from West Chester just before 8 p.m., the blaze had been brought under control. Martin said the nozzle, which poked a hole in the side of the bin, expedited the process of emptying the hot embers.
