"There are a lot of technology updates. It's bigger and can hold more equipment," Czlapinski said. "And on the old engine, the equipment was on top; on the new one, it goes in side panels for faster on-scene time."

The new Engine 10 carries 750 gallons of water, while the old only held 500. And it carries 30 gallons of class “A” foam, and 30 gallons of class “B” foam, while the old only held class "B" foam. The foam is used to combat different types of fires, Czlapinski explained.

The truck's final cost was $628,513 and it was manufactured by KME in Pennsylvania.

Courage for Kyle Facebook page

Hopefully you remember the story from back in December about Kyle McGetrick who battled cancer for most of his young life.  Firefighters at Barnegat Fire Company #1, where Kyle's father is a member, thought they would have a small parade in front of Kyle's home.  It turned into a large parade for Kyle. A FireTruckBlog.com story about the parade prompted hundreds of firefighters from around the world to send messages and patches to kyle.  With sadness we report that Kyle passed away yesterday.

Kyle touched so many lives in many different ways and we are saddened by his passing.  His father posted this message on the Courage For Kyle Facebook Page.

Today one of the most precious gifts in my life left to a place where there are no more doctors, treatments, pain and sorrow. For today our family let Kyle jump on his own fire truck to heaven. He taught me as a father the true meaning of love, courage and strength. Kyle fought so hard for the last 7 years with fearless strength and valor that can not be measured or imagined. He fought and faced the enemy o cancer till the very end. Rest now forever my son and feel no more pain. Your will to continue the fight and help other kids will go on by those you touched. I will see you every night in my dreams. Thank you to everyone through the years who have supported Kyle. His mission will continue to help other kids of Barnegat. We love you all. Kyle will always be my little fireman.

This message is from Gary Brown, who is president of Barnegat Fire Company:

We lost Kyle yesterday around 1 PM.  He was at home with his Mom and Dad (Francine and Gene).   He was such a brave hard fighting kid.   We will be giving him full honors as he was an Honorary Member of Barnegat Fire Company and all he wanted to do was grow up to be a firefighter.  The services will be next Thursday May 10th and Friday May 11th.  The viewing hours will be from 2-4 PM and 7 to 9 PM on the 10th at Shinn Funeral Home in Manahawkin, NJ.  The funeral will be at 11 AM at St Mary's Church in Barnegat, NJ.  We just request that any fire companies who plan to attend please RSVP to the following email, and let us know how many people and if they plan to bring apparatus, and for which day or both.  We are expecting a lot of apparatus and we just want to work with our local PD for traffic control as much as possible. Additionally, Kyle had requested that in lieu of flowers that donations be sent to the Oceans of Love Foundation or to Barnegat Fire Company.  Any donations can be sent to Barnegat Fire Company Station 11, P.O. Box 539, Barnegat, NJ 08005. We will ensure that Kyle's parents receive all donations for Oceans of Love Foundation.

RSVP to :  gbrown@station11.org  Thank you again for all of your support now and for the last 6 months.
